3rd Suspect Arrested In Comic Book Store Shooting
January 20, 2009
KENT COUNTY - Officials in Kent County say the third suspect wanted in a comic book store shooting last April has been apprehended in Illinois.
On April 25th, three suspects went into the Apparitions Comic Book Store near 28th Street to rob it. Javon Sawyer, then 18, brought a gun with him. A struggle ensued, and the store owner was shot in the chest, leaving him in critical condition. He's since recovered from the injuries.
Sawyer had been on the run since. Officials in Kent County say he was arrested this morning in Joliet, Illinois. They say the FBI task force out of Chicago located him.
A short time after the shooting, the two men with Sawyer were arrested. Police took James Thompson and Marvin Jones into custody after a traffic stop in Kentwood in the early morning hours the day after the shooting.
Thompson plead guilty to Armed Robbery, and was sentenced to 7 years in prison.
Marvin Jones is awaiting trial.
We'll continue to follow this story, and bring you any updates once they become available.
